Cateran Ecomuseum

You’ll know that Scotland was once covered by glaciers – in the ‘ice age’. But how do we know? What is the evidence the glaciers left behind?

This short, guided walk along Glenshee and led by one of Scotland’s most renowned Palaeoenvironmentalists, Dr Richard Tipping, will take you through a section of the Spittal of Glenshee, introduce you to the abundant physical evidence and transport you back 20,000 years to a very different world.

Dogs are not permitted owing to land use and livestock. You may wish to bring snack rations and drinking water. Be prepared for Scotland’s varied weather with clothing for wet/cold and warm/dry conditions. Please wear sturdy footwear with ankle support suitable for mixed upland terrain. There are no public toilets on this route.

This session is part of The Cateran Ecomuseum’s innovative Museum of Rapid Transition programme which aims to reconnect people to heritage and traditions that are hidden and/or at risk, showing their practical relevance for more regenerative ways of living, bringing people together and enhancing a sense of place, stewardship and community resilience.
