An exciting start to our community co-created School of the Moon pilot programme continues in 2023.
There will be community poetry projects happening in both Meigle and Kirkmichael – keep an eye out on your local community notice boards and social media for how you can get involved, and workshops and events happening from January to May.
We will be celebrating women’s stories and knowledge at the heart of our communities in a range of collaborative Wise Women events in the week around International Women’s Day (8th March).
Two of these will be a Wise Women Herbal Brew workshop on Saturday March 4th, 1pm – 3pm at Kirriemuir Community Garden, in association with Sustainable Kirriemuir; where you can share your family herbal remedies and learn more about the folklore and uses of local plants from local herbalist Terril Dobson MNIMH. Followed by a Wise Women Walk on Sunday March 5th, 10am – 12:30pm around Meigle, in association with Meigle and Ardler Development Trust; where you can join us for a walk through time as we uncover and discuss the stories of fascinating women from Vanora, local suffragettes to Lady Macbeth and the Three Witches, and how these reflect societies changing attitudes to women through time. Specialist Scottish Witch Trials historian Judith Langlands (featured on Lucy Worsley Investigates – The Witch Hunts) will be giving a talk after the Meigle walk Sunday March 5th, 2pm – 3pm (time maybe subject to change). All events will be free. Details will be posted soon as to how to book your places.

Looking further ahead in spring, we’ll be celebrating the seasons and nature with Beltain and biodiversity activities. Such as hosting a Pollinator’s Picnic in Alyth on May Day (1st May) in collaboration with BugLife’s Strathmore B-Line project. It promises to be a day full of family activities to help us get to know our buzzing and flittering insect neighbours and how we can help to protect them, and ourselves in the face of climate change and biodiversity loss.
